The Møller Centre and Churchill College are convening senior international leaders, future leaders, academics and policy makers from world-class organisations for a series of panels to identify the key global strategic issues facing leaders in the 21st century.

Partnering with other major organisations including; Learn to Lead, the British Council, the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Centre for Science and Policy, the initiative forms part of the Churchill 2015 – 21st Century Statesmanship Global Leaders Programme.

Led by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust with Sir John Major as its Patron, the Global Leaders Programme Churchill 2015 is part of a series of international events celebrating the life and legacy of Sir Winston Churchill, fifty years after his death and seventy five years after his ‘finest hour’ in 1940 when he became Prime Minister.

Professor Dame Athene Donald, Master of Churchill College said: “As the National and Commonwealth Memorial to Sir Winston, and as an educational part of his living legacy, the College, The Churchill Archives Centre and The Møller Centre clearly have a unique position at the heart of these celebrations, and are fully engaged in the leadership debate looking forward as well as back, and we are delighted to be working with the wider Churchill community.”

Events hosted at Churchill College and The Møller Centre include panel discussions on ‘Joined-up scientific advice for 21st century leaders’ and ‘Practical leadership: capabilities and behaviour to adapt and thrive’. In addition The Møller Centre is offering to invest in 20 exceptional young people, aged 19-25, to help them unlock their leadership potential in a three-module residential ‘Next generation leadership development programme’. Each event will produce a report of recommendations which will be published collectively with the findings of the other panels, along with a strategic overview, in a digital book which will become a leadership blueprint for the 21st Century. The next steps and action will then be agreed at a high-level summit of leaders at The Guildhall, London on 23rd October.

Gillian Secrett, CEO of the Møller Centre and Fellow of Churchill College explained: “We are delighted to be part of the 21st Century Statesmanship Global Leaders Programme and it is fitting that we will be exploring and defining today’s key leadership challenges and strategic issues in the College which embodies Sir Winston Churchill’s vision for how higher education can benefit society in the modern age.

Maersk Mc-Kinney Møller was one of the most respected industrialist leaders in Denmark and his vision and benefaction created The Møller Centre for Continuing Education, to bring the worlds of academia and industry together for Executive and Professional education and development. He believed that Denmark’s safety during the Second World War and freedom and prosperity afterwards, had depended on Churchill’s leadership and wanted to create a living legacy in his honour at Churchill College.

This unique connection of two great leaders provides the context and inspiration for the leadership development we deliver here at The Møller Centre. With a strong focus on impact, we work with leaders and aspiring leaders through a special combination of practitioner, academic and experiential learning to enable them to excel and reach their potential to the benefit of the organisations for which they work, and society as a whole.

Our involvement in this Global Leaders Programme will see us partnering with other organisations and individuals to further explore and inspire our approach and content for our leadership development programmes.”
